Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd (HCCBL), the primary bottling arm of beverage giant Coca-Cola in India, has reported a significant 73% decline in net profit to Rs 756.64 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, down from Rs 2,808.31 crore in the previous year.

Financial Performance Overview

The company’s revenue from operations declined by 9% to Rs 12,751.29 crore, compared to Rs 14,021.55 crore in FY24. Despite the revenue decline, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages’ total income, which includes other income sources, increased by 9.63% to Rs 12,864.36 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2025.

The dramatic profit decline can be attributed to a higher base effect from the previous year. In FY24, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages had recorded exceptional gains of Rs 2,526.7 crore from divesting bottling operations in Rajasthan, Bihar, North-East, and parts of West Bengal. In FY25, exceptional items dropped to Rs 119.9 crore, significantly impacting year-over-year comparisons.

Strategic Refranchising Initiatives

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages’ financial results reflect the company’s ongoing strategic transformation. In July 2025, Coca-Cola completed the sale of a 40% stake in HCCBL to the Jubilant Bhartia Group, marking another milestone in its global refranchising strategy.

During an earnings call, Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey emphasized that these strategic moves would “unlock growth opportunities in India and Africa”. The refranchising strategy, initiated in 2015, aims to allow Coca-Cola to focus more on brand building and innovation while partnering with independent bottlers.

Tax Expenses and Operational Metrics

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages’ total tax expenses decreased by 72% to Rs 247.98 crore in FY25, down from Rs 910.07 crore in the previous year. This reduction partially offset the impact of declining operational revenue.

Product Portfolio and Market Position

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages manufactures and distributes 37 different products across eight beverage categories. The company’s diverse portfolio includes popular brands such as Coca-Cola, Thums Up, Sprite, Minute Maid, Maaza, SmartWater, Kinley, Limca, and Fanta.

Future Outlook

As Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages navigates through its strategic transformation, the beverage industry will closely monitor how the refranchising strategy shapes the company’s growth trajectory in India’s competitive beverage market. The partnership with Jubilant Bhartia Group is expected to drive operational efficiencies and unlock new growth opportunities in the region.
